A Little Bit About Me

How Eclipse Digital DFW was born

Zachary Thomas · 5/23/2026

Hey everyone, I recently saw another founder share about what led them to start their business and found it super inspiring. I figured, since I was blessed with that experience, maybe I should put out my own story in the hopes that it might inspire other founders.

So, Eclipse Digital DFW started as a pipe dream when I was listening to a Tobias Lütke interview (founder of Shopify), and he said that he considers himself a tool-builder for engineers (also tool-builders). As an electrical engineering student, I have seen the value of tools. Solidworks, for those of you that don't know, is an extremely powerful software mechanical engineers use to design anything from the new fidget toy to the bridges that hold millions of people's lives every day. TinkerCAD gives electrical engineers the ability to simulate their circuits before they even have the parts needed. Not only does this save huge amounts of money for people trying to make technologies that will someday change the world. This makes the process of developing these life-altering devices so much more efficient. The question I found myself asking is "what tool could I make that would help people change the world?" For some reason, my mother's photography business came to mind.

I've always been a big believer in the importance of small businesses. I grew up in an environment that really pushed this concept but, honestly, it isn't hard to see the impact small businesses have. We get there haircut by owner-operator salons. We reach out to a mobile car mechanic to fix our AC during Texas summers. Plumbers, tattoo artists, moving companies, personal trainers and more all have huge impacts on our quality of lives, so I made it my mission to make tools to support the backbone of America: small businesses.

To understand what would make the biggest difference, I decided to reach out to many of the small businesses around me. Elsy, the lady that has been cutting my hair said that she's been making appointments through text for years, but she's getting so busy that she needs a better way to organize it. Monroe, the guy that did the tint on my dad's car said that he faces a similar issue and often finds himself juggling all of his client's. Carol and Ginger, who ran the gym I grew up in, said that a lot of the financial tools are not really made for small businesses. With each conversation, I noted what the areas of discomfort and inefficiency were and then started working on solutions.

Eclipse Digital DFW is still in the very early stages, but I have worked hard to build a strong foundation for what is to come. Eclipse Scheduler site is Live! The mobile app companion is in review with the apple app store and will be coming out very soon. After these out there helping make it easier for small business owners to manage their appointments, I plan to work on a finance dashboard helping small businesses manage there finances more effectively. After that, I hope to add even more services and put them all in one place and make Eclipse the one-stop-shop for small businesses that offers everything these people need to be successful!

Please stay tuned with Eclipse Digital DFW on our Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn so you can be a part of this incredible journey!
